Defining Moments

I had several fun people in yesterday. I will be doing this from 2-8 today as well, and hope to get lots more! Come in with your costumes, no appointment necessary during this time. Scroll down for details! Here’s a small peek at what I did yesterday:

I did studio and location sessions with Victor yesterday. We had fun, and tried two totally new locations for me, including pulling over on the shoulder of the road to get some nice fall color that we noticed beside the interstate. These were my favorites, after a quick look through the images:

Laura and Jonathan will be married soon, and wanted to get some outdoor engagement shots.  This was done yesterday early afternoon.  We had perfect lighting and weather, and finished up just as it started to sprinkle!  I really enjoyed doing this session and hanging out with them for a bit…..very relaxed and friendly couple.

And hopefully there will be many more! Laura’s session in West Branch today was great: weather was nice and the light was perfect, with the sun only occasionally peeking out from behind a thin layer of clouds. The leaves are starting to turn, so we were able to get some nice fall color in some of the shots. The only problem is that I took too many pics, and trying to sort out the best will be tough. Here’s a preview:

I did an indoor/outdoor session with Casey this morning. Very easy-going kid, nice to work with! The fall colors aren’t quite popping everywhere yet, but we managed to get a couple of shots with some color. Here are a few favorites from the session:

…as Hannah and I found out today. For the outdoor portion of her session, she had planned to do some shots in the water. Despite the temp falling below 50 degrees by the time of the session, she did it anyway!! She also dragged her friend Ellie into the water, and…..well, yes, I had to wade in a bit too to get the best shots. Just another routine case of me going above and beyond the call of duty to give my seniors what they want.

Hannah had some cool funky outfits for the studio shots, too. Here’s a sneak peek at the session, with more to come soon:

I rarely do senior sessions on Saturdays, as I like to save them for make-ups in case of bad weather. But I made an exception in the case of Camille. I did her sister’s pictures last year, and Camille lives out of town but was only here for two days, so we scheduled some studio time. And I’m really glad we did! Her mother wondered if she might have trouble being natural in front of the camera. I say…..NO PROBLEM!!! She was very relaxed, goofing around and having a great time, as you can see from the last panel below. This was one of my favorite senior sessions this year, and I think Camille was even pleasantly surprised at how fun it was.

I’ve decided it would be fun to have a Halloween costume competition. To encourage participation, I will be offering everyone a FREE print, and awarding a free child or family session to the winner, along with a free framed 16×20 print. Bring your kids! If you don’t have kids, come yourself!  Or bring a pet!!

DETAILS: I will take 4-6 photos of each participant in a five-minute mini-session. Results will be posted to a gallery on my web site sometime the following week. Choose one image per costume (one costume per participant) and let me know by phone or email. I will have a 4×5 print made and have it at my studio for pickup.

WHEN: Tuesday Oct.30th, from 4-8pm, and Wednesday Oct. 31st, from 2-8pm at my studio, 1106 N. Dodge St. in Iowa City. There are no appointments. People will be photographed as they arrive, so there may be a short wait.

PARKING: Please do not park at the Hilltop Tavern! The studio driveway has 3-4 spaces. If it is full, there is plenty of space on N. Summit, just around the corner.

VOTING: When the gallery is posted, there will be a poll on my studio blog where people can vote for the best costume. I will keep the voting open for one week, and whoever gets the most votes will get the free session.

FINE PRINT: Basically, there is no fine print. Anyone can participate, and everyone who does gets a free print, with no strings attached. The winning prize also comes with no further purchase obligation. The session is a 30-minute studio session and may be used for a child, family, or pet sitting (not valid for senior or location sessions), and the framed 16×20 can be converted to credit toward other products. The prize cannot, however, be converted to cash.
