Bo Ramsey

~~~
I shot another show for the Englert last night. Oddly enough for being a long-time Iowan, I had never seen Bo Ramsey play before. I was impressed! This guy put on a great show that was a lot of fun to listen to and shoot. I might be adding him to my CD collection soon.;) The full gallery from the show can be viewed HERE.
Alejandro Escovedo!
April 3rd, 2008 by Todd
~~~

This guy has long been one of my musical heroes. I got to photograph (and meet!) him at the Englert tonight. This was the first time I had seen him do an acoustic set. Brilliant. A set composed heavily of ballads, and the audience so rapt and attentive I was sometimes hesitant to click my shutter. It was a small but very enthusiastic crowd, and both players unplugged and played out in the seats for a while. What an awesome show! David Pulkingham is the guy who played with Alejandro and added some backing vocals. His playing is incredible! A few images are below, and the full gallery is HERE.

Dress Rehearsal

December 19th, 2007 by Todd

~~~
Well, City Circle’s production of A Christmas Story has ended, and it was a great show!  Congrats to all the actors and crew for a wonderful job!  I had a chance to shoot a dress rehearsal the night before the play opened.  I’ve posted a few shots below, and you can view the full gallery HERE.
A Christmas Story
December 6th, 2007 by Todd
~~~

I did the actors’ headshots last night for Coralville’s City Circle Acting Company’s upcoming adaptation of A Christmas Story. I’ve done headshots for them before, but this time my son will be starring in the play. I can’t wait to see it! I’ve posted the photos below, and for more information about the production, which opens next week, click HERE.

Paws for a Cause

September 17th, 2007 by Todd

~~~
Friends of the Animal Center Foundation held its annual benefit for the Iowa City Animal Shelter yesterday, and I took lots of pictures. It was very fun to see all the people and dog breeds who showed up to participate! There was frequent application of olfactory organs to the nether regions of strangers (among the dogs, that is), and for the most part, everybody got along really well. I particularly enjoyed the flyball demonstration. There were also many contests, door prizes, demonstrations, and of course the run/walk. Many local vendors contributed to the cause, and some had booths at the event, which took place in Lower City Park. The weather couldn’t have been nicer! A few images from the benefit:
Gillette Family Benefit
July 23rd, 2007 by Todd
Ashley Gillette was recently diagnosed with Central Nervous System Vasculitis.  Her condition and associated travel for medical treatments have made it impossible for her to care for their three children, and her sister-in-law and many friends organized a benefit for the Gillette Family at The Mill in Iowa City.  I donated a photo session and prints for the silent auction, and did some photography for the event.  The benefit was a huge success, and so wonderful to see so many people willing to help someone in need!  Photos from the benefit are HERE.  Below is a portrait of the Gillette family I did a couple of years ago.
Pit Bull Rescue
June 24th, 2007 by Todd
Andrea Kilkenny is a friend and local pit bull advocate who works at the Iowa City Animal Shelter, and helped to save our dog Artie. She contacted me recently about doing photos for a pit bull poster that will hang in the animal shelter. The idea is to increase awareness of what a great breed this is, because they are more difficult to find homes for, due to their undeserved reputation. This project was a lot of work, but fun, too, and well worth it. I spent two days photographing pit bulls and their owners, then Andrea and I worked on the design of the poster together. The final piece should be displayed soon at the Iowa City animal shelter, and duplicate posters may eventually be available for purchase to benefit the shelter. Below is a picture of Artie with our kids, plus a few outtakes from the photo sessions. That’s Andrea and her dog Mojo in the second image.
I just edited the post to include a small version of what the final poster looks like (clickable thumbnails). It won’t be possible to read the text at this size, but the poster consists of individual vignettes about dogs and their owners.  I’ve included the one of Artie and Jake as an example.  The poster was designed to be printed at 20″ x 30″.  If/when I get word from Andrea that it will be produced for sale, I will post the info on my blog.
