I’m Pissed at Sean

August 31st, 2010 by Todd

~~~
Why, you ask? Because I’ve had Maxwell’s Silver Hammer stuck in my head for the last two days! Heh….I guess that’s what I get for letting him drive me to the location part of his session. ;) We had a blast, though. We went downtown, and Sean walked around and played his ukulele while I took pictures. Like the headless shot? I wonder what his mom will think. It’s for the yearbook. I’m starting a new trend.
Gabe: West High Senior
August 31st, 2010 by Todd
~~~

Gabe’s was an entertaining session. Exceptionally talkative and friendly kid, and he knows so much about cars he was looking through some of my photos and picking out makes and models from the highly blurred regions. Anyone want to guess what kind of car that is in the third shot below? We had perfect light at the Dam. We also did some studio shots, and some with mom and step-dad as well.

Outdoor Family Session

August 23rd, 2010 by Todd

~~~
I suffered a few skeeter bites for this one, but I think it was worth it. We were looking for a good B&W family shot, plus something for birth announcements for the n00b in the photo. :) The shot below was my favorite. I also took shots of the kids together, but SOMEBODY had to be bribed (not going to mention any names…hehe) with the promise of a good headshot for her Facebook page. I promised her the best one she’s ever had. Ha! We’ll see if she thinks I delivered!
Bubba! (senior session)
August 22nd, 2010 by Todd
~~~

This is Bubba. We had fun shooting at the studio, then outside in West Branch. The light was good this time, but it was HOT. Fun shoot, anyway! I’ve shot senior sessions for both of his brothers over the past few years (they both had normal names). ;)

Rainy Day Senior Session

August 22nd, 2010 by Todd

~~~
Colin’s session was Friday evening. Dreary weather and poor light forced me to think outside of my normal shooting paradigms, and I think that’s a good thing. We came up with some really interesting shots! We did studio stuff, then went downtown (as previously planned). After some shots in our planned spot, Colin suggested we go to the top of the parking ramp, because he wanted a shot with the Iowa City skyline in the background. This was a really good plan, IMO. Connor: Senior Session
August 16th, 2010 by Todd
~~~

The biggest problem with Connor was that he wouldn’t stop smiling; it was tough to get the more serious looks. Hahha, just kidding, of course. :) Connor wasn’t the most prolific smiler I’ve shot, but he was a great subject anyway, and I think he enjoyed the session a little bit, too. He was pretty patient with me, too, considering how hot it was, as I tried out some new lenses and different looks. The last shot below is “experimental,” not my normal style (for senior sessions, at least),  but I’m kinda liking it!

Another Family at Home

August 6th, 2010 by Todd

~~~
Another at-home family session! Kids like these so much more, I think, because they’re on their own territory. I think they’re kinda fun, too, because I can get out of the studio. I did a family session for these guys in the studio a few years ago, and they recently decided to update their walls with some more natural-light outdoor pics from their backyard. Here’s a few samples from their session:
Family/Maternity Session
July 26th, 2010 by Todd
~~~

Heather is a friend and Iowa City photographer who asked me to do a few maternity shots for her. She brought her husband and little guy along, so we got a good variety of fun shots. The first maternity session I’ve done in quite a while!

Family Session at Home

July 21st, 2010 by Todd

~~~
Their home, not mine. :) I should really do home sessions more often. I think it adds a nice environmental element to the images, and the kids are definitely more comfortable being in a familiar place. You might recognize David from a recent post, when I did some headshots for him.
Andre – Senior Session
July 14th, 2010 by Todd
~~~

I am a bit behind in updating……Andre had his session last weekend. He’s a West High student (my alma mater!) and a drummer in the band. It was hard to pick my favorites from his session, but here are a few strong contenders:
