Boogie Woogie Piano Dude

July 14th, 2010 by Todd

~~~
Chase is a local piano player who came to the studio for some new shots for his web site (which I am designing for him, incidentally….it’s not live right now, but I will link it here when it is). Here’s a few:
Bugs and Flowers
July 5th, 2010 by Todd
~~~

Well, it’s been a looong time since I’ve taken a few moments to do some recreational shooting. I’ve just been very busy with work. I have no doubt some of you have noticed there hasn’t been anything new up at Photernal for quite a while. I have been meaning to announce an end to that project. Well, less of an end than an evolution. I plan to continue, when I can, a similar vein of shooting, but with more art and less structure. I will be focusing on producing print-quality art. Keep your eyes open later this year for a new website, as well as a local showing of my work in print. For now, here are a few images taken this morning:

Morning Senior Session

June 29th, 2010 by Todd

~~~
This is John, from West High. I prefer to avoid shooting when the sun is high, so when people ask about best best session times, I always default to “approaching sunset, or just after sunrise.” Until John, everyone has opted for the former. Apparently he’s a morning person! So we met early yesterday, and shot downtown for a while, and then came back to the studio. Here are a few from the session:
At Mabie Theatre
June 29th, 2010 by Todd
~~~

David teaches in the UI Department of Theatre Arts and the Business College. He came to me for headshots for his web site profiles as well as for the upcoming 20under40 anthology, for which he is a selected author. We spent most of the evening roaming around the theatre, which is just loaded with great shooting spots inside and out. I’ve chosen a few favorites below. The one with the broken window was taken in the basement of the Theatre Building, which was where David’s office used to be, but which was flooded in 2008 and has been unused since.

Prom Night!

April 18th, 2010 by Todd

~~~
I had the opportunity to shoot candids at the City High after-prom party last night. I had to stay up late, but it was well worth it. The party was a blast, the parents made a terrific effort for this, and I know the kids really appreciated it. I wish they would have had stuff like this when I was in high school! Gambling, tattooing, jousting, pool, cakewalk, a hypnotist….all kinds of things. The gambling and tattooing were totally real, too. Swear.
I had a lot of fun shooting this event. I’ve added a few favorites below, and HERE is a link to all of them.
Nsika
Nsika is a young model who came to me to advance her portfolio. We got some very standard “agency” shots, but then had a little bit of fun, too. Here are a few from her session:
Matt, West Branch 2010
January 25th, 2010 by Todd
~~~

I shot Matt’s session in the fading window light last Friday, late afternoon. Once again I am thankful for the incredible low-light capabilities of the Nikon D3. He was definitely among my easiest subjects this year, very relaxed and easy-going. Consequently, there were plenty of nice shots. I love the ringlight closeup! Here are a few from the shoot:

Today is the third session I’ve done with Dean, and the first where he was sitting and standing by himself. Looking forward to more! Here are a few shots from this morning:

Eamonn

January 2nd, 2010 by Todd

~~~
Eamonn is a senior at Regina, a saxophone player and soccer player. I did his sister’s senior photos a couple of years ago, and Eamonn got to be my first senior session of 2010. Very relaxed session, and we got some shots of him and his sister together as well. Here are a few of my favorites:
